When you're standing in the makeup accessories aisle, it’s not always easy to know what to pick.

Indeed, there are brushes of all kinds: big ones, small ones, stiff ones, soft ones!

But practically speaking, how do you use all these makeup brushes?

Here’s a quick guide to help you use the right brushes and achieve a professional look.

Professional Makeup Brushes

1- Makeup Brushes for Eyes

Flat Brush

The flat brush is used to apply both powder and cream eyeshadows.

They come in all sizes, but my preference is for medium-sized brushes, which are perfect for spreading shadow across the entire eyelid.

Blending Brush

The blending brush is ideal for mixing and blending dry shadows.

With small circular movements, it allows you to intensify or soften your look.

Eyeliner Brush

The eyeliner brush is perfect for a fine and precise line.

It can be flat, straight, or angled, and as its name suggests, it helps you apply eyeliner close to your lashes.

Eyebrow Brush

The eyebrow brush is angled and features stiff bristles to apply eyebrow shadow or simply blend your eyebrow pencil.

Spoolie Brush

The spoolie brush is a magical little tool for grooming your brows and lashes.

For eyebrows, it helps soften any excess shadow, while for lashes, it removes clumps of mascara and separates them.

2- Makeup Brushes for the Face

Foundation Brush

The foundation brush is flat with a rounded tip, perfect for liquid foundations.

It spreads the product evenly for a natural finish.

Powder Brush

The powder brush is soft and voluminous, ideal for applying compact powders and sculpting your face.

Blush Brush

The blush brush is perfect for applying blush to the cheekbones and creating shadow and light zones.

It can be rounded or angled, with the latter being the favorite for contouring enthusiasts.

Fan Brush

The fan brush with its light bristles is your ally for correcting imperfections and quickly blending excess product.

3- Lip Makeup Brush

Lip Makeup Brush

The lip makeup brush is ideal for applying glosses or lipsticks while carefully defining the lip contours.

Good brushes lead to better results, so don’t skimp on their quality.

There are synthetic brushes, particularly for creamy foundations, and natural bristle brushes, which are more suited for powders.

Make sure to clean your brushes regularly with a purifying brush cleanser.
